Boarding & Deplaning with the Mobility Lift

Boarding

  • The Mobility Lift will be ready for boarding as the guest makes their way to the aircraft.
  • The guest can use the transfer plate to transfer onto the Mobility Lift seat.
  • The Lift Harness will be situated on the Mobility Lift seat in preparation for guest.
    • Note: The Lift Harness will be buckled onto guest for boarding, flight, and deplaning. The Lift Harness is a key component of the Mobility Lift, designed to improve the comfort and safety of guests during operation.
  • The guest will secure the seatbelt.
  • The Mobility Lift operator will activate the motor which ascends the guest to the aircraft.
  • Once inside the aircraft, the mobility seat can be rotated so the guest is side-by-side with the desired aircraft seat.
  • To transfer to the aircraft seat, a transfer plate extends and the guest can reposition themselves onto the aircraft seat.

  • When the guest is prepared to transfer, the guest can position themselves onto the mobility lift using the transfer plate.
  • The guest will secure the seatbelt and the lift motor will be activated by the Mobility Lift operator. The guest will descend from the aircraft.
  • Once at the base, the mobility seat will be oriented to the guest’s wheelchair and the guest can transfer using the transfer plate and position themselves onto the chair.

Considerations Regarding the Mobility Lift

Guest Considerations

  • Guests with questions are encouraged to call ahead of departure and discuss the Mobility Lift with our Customer Contact Centre.
  • The Lift Harness is a key component of the Mobility Lift and must be worn for transfers and during the journey.
  • Use of the mobility lift requires the guest to be able to move themselves between wheelchair and aircraft seat using the transfer plate. Harbour Air staff are unable to provide more than minimal, stabilizing assistance.
  • The Mobility Lift is rated to carry up to 500 lbs and the dimensions of the seat are as follows: 17.75" wide, 16" deep.

Operational Considerations

  • Harbour Air operates in a unique operating environment for our float operations. The condition of the water, wind, etc. can make the Mobility Lift unsafe to operate, even if the flight is operable. In these cases, impacted guests will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible and options will be discussed.
